Statement of Interests
I studied Plant Biology at Mississippi State University and directly following my M.S., I was hired to teach courses like Plant Biology, Animal Biology, and Plants and Humans. I became interested in effective teaching methodology in science courses at the higher education level and its impact on student learning outcomes. Through utilizing different teaching strategies, I was named a National Academies Education Fellow in the Life Sciences, 2005-2006. Along with continually refining the course that I currently teach, I am also pursuing a doctoral degree in Agricultural Education and Extension and looking at the effects on student learning in virtual laboratories. I am also the Director of Undergraduate Advising and guide all Biological Sciences, Microbiology and Medical Technology students within the Department of Biological Sciences through their undergraduate education. In addition, I advise pre-medical, pre-dental, pre-veterinary, pre-nursing students and others who are pursuing acceptance to health-related professional schools. I am the faculty advisor for several student organizations including Alpha Epsilon Delta, the Medical Technology Student Association, and the American Dental Student Association.
